Friday, October 18 (Washington, D.C.) — Today, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the second round of Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program awardees. GRIP was initially created and funded as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Today’s DOE awards total up to $2 billion across 38 projects, impacting more than 950 miles of transmission including 300 miles of new transmission lines. These projects will create nearly 6,000 new jobs and enable the addition of more than 7.5 GW of grid capacity.

Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) Executive Director Christina Hayes issued the following statement:

“Americans for a Clean Energy Grid applauds the Department of Energy’s investment in transmission through the GRIP program. These awards highlight the DOE’s innovative approach to closing market gaps and advancing the public interest – which is particularly important as a recent study from the department shows that the U.S. grid must be expanded to 2.4 to 3.5 times its current size by 2050 to provide the largest benefits to Americans. This announcement represents an important step in upgrading our national infrastructure by helping projects move forward that will ensure that customers can continue to access reliable, cost-effective electricity. We look forward to supporting these projects as they progress toward completion.”
